01 · Field spot
First, find its butt.
Yep, that creamy patch. It's where the watermelon sat on the ground soaking up the sun.

Creamy yellow? Yes.
That's what we want. It had time to hang out and ripen.
Pale or white? Meh.
Probably picked before its prime. Keep looking.
02 · Weight
Now pick it up.
It should feel surprisingly heavy for its size. Water = weight. Weight = juice. Juice = the whole point.
Tap each one to lift it
03 · Shape
Nobody likes a lumpy melon.
Go for round or evenly oval. Weird bumps and wonky sides can mean uneven growing. Same size? Take the heavier one.
04 · Skin
Shiny is suspicious.
A good watermelon usually looks more matte than glossy. Think dull and confident, not freshly polished.
Matte. Looking good.
05 · Stem
Got a stem? Inspect it.
Dry and brown is what you want. Bright green can mean it left the vine a little early.

Dry + brown
Nice. It had time.
Fresh + green
Bit eager, weren't we?
06 · Tap test
Okay. Slap it.
Gently. We're choosing fruit, not starting a fight. A good one should sound deep and hollow-ish, not flat and dead.
Hold your phone close and give it 3 taps with two fingers.
